Qualified local companies may be able to benefit from an economic relief fund from the Development Corporation of Abilene (DCOA) to help protect businesses and their employees.
CEO Misty Mayo presented the idea, and the DCOA responded by putting the fund in place. Incentive grants will be awarded to local companies that meet qualifications.
The half-cent sales tax will be put toward the fund, according to Big Country.
“It’s times like these that prove what type of city we are," Abilene Mayor Anthony Williams told Big Country. "I am proud to say that Abilene is a city that bands together and finds ways to help each other. We are resourceful and kind, looking to support each other. The Economic Relief Fund will help create stability in this ever-changing time of trial."
There will be a special committee dedicated to the fund. Applications can be found on its website.
