CITY OF SWEETWATER: The City of Sweetwater Opening Newman Park Splash Pad in mid-June

Opens

City of Sweetwater recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Sweetwater is nearly ready to open the new splash pad, as early as the afternoon of Tuesday June 16th .

Several administrative issues still need to be dealt with, and once those items are approved, the City will be able to open the splash pad for the public’s enjoyment.

“Now that the Governor has allowed water parks to open, including splash pads, we just need to check a few more boxes, and we’ll be set to go,” said City Manager David A. Vela. “Our staff is being trained this week on how to operate and maintain the splash pad, and as soon as we get the ownership transferred, we’ll be ready to open this new and exciting amenity to the public, just in time for summer.”

Due to economic reasons, the City announced on April 1st that the public swimming pool would remain closed this swim season. The City hopes that the splash pad fills that void for the community.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all in many ways, including financially. Although we could not afford to open the pool this season, we feel the community will see that the splash pad is a great alternative that will help make positive memories for our residents for years to come.”

The splash pad project was a collaborative effort between the Sweetwater Municipal Development District and the City of Sweetwater.

“The Sweetwater MDD has been a great partner in helping fund the dog park and the new splash pad. We look forward to continue working with the MDD Board of Directors and Staff in bringing great quality of life amenities to our community,” said Vela.

More information about the splash pad opening, including a grand opening, will be forthcoming.
