Gov. Greg Abbott's Public Safety Office will be giving $41 million in federal funds to aid Texas cities and counties in response to the battle with the COVID-19 pandemic, including $98,250 to Jones County.

"I thank our federal partners for their support and ongoing collaboration as we work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Texas," Abbott said. "This funding is critical to helping local governments protect Texans and combat the spread of the virus in our communities. The State of Texas will continue to work with the federal government to help meet the needs of our cities and counties as they respond to COVID-19."

According to the announcement, the federal funds are rewarded through the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESF). Funds will be used by county leaders to fund first responders who are always on the front lines.

Moreover, funds will go toward the purchase of equipment and supplies that will help support teleworking technologies and social distancing education.
