Abilene Fire Dept. issued the following announcement on Oct 9.
Drivers utilizing on-street parking in downtown Abilene will be required to comply with existing, posted parking limits and parking meters through Tuesday, October 20, 2020 to avoid parking fines or towing.
Abilene City Council voted at its October 8, 2020 meeting to increase on-street parking limits to two hours across the downtown area. The only exception will be for on-street parking adjacent to the post office (341 Pine Street), where parking meters will be removed, and parking limited to one hour.
This change in parking policy will take effect on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Until that time, drivers must follow existing on-street parking limits as posted.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, City personnel will replace downtown parking signs not in compliance with the new on-street parking ordinance, and cover meters adjacent to the post office. Drivers and downtown patrons can expect meters to remain covered until they are removed, and new signage reflecting the updated on-street parking ordinance is installed. During that time, a one-hour on-street parking limit will be in effect for on-street parking adjacent to the post office.
Individuals with questions about on-street downtown parking can call the City of Abilene Public Works Department at 325.676.6281. Drivers with questions on the status of a parking ticket or fine can call Municipal Court at 325.676.6333.
