United Express has resumed service between Abilene Regional Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The first flight from Abilene to Houston took off at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21, and will be one of two daily round-trip flights, the City of Abilene reported. The other flight leaves at 7 a.m. Both flights use a 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet.
The flights from Houston to Abilene depart at 2:20 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The return of flights between Abilene and Houston is part of an effort to enhance the attractiveness of Abilene to prospective businesses, as well as make it easy and convenient for area residents to fly out of Abilene. United Express gives Abilene two carriers, with the other being American Eagle.
The addition was made possible by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program.
