CITY OF ABILENE: COVID Data Reporting Will be Delayed During Holidays

City of Abilene issued the following announcement on Nov. 10

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District will delay reporting COVID data during the upcoming holiday season and wants to alert the media and public about this change in routine.

“It’s time we give our frontline public health staff a much-needed break,” said Annette Lerma, director. “They have been working tirelessly everyday reporting numbers, including holidays, since the beginning of the pandemic.”

Health District staff will not work on the holiday. Data submitted on a holiday will be tabulated the following business day and reported on social media the following day. A report will be available on the holiday since the data reported is as of 5pm the previous day. There will be no report available the day after the holiday and reporting will resume on the second day after returning from a holiday break.

Veterans’ Day
Thanksgiving Day & Friday
Christmas Eve & Christmas Day
New Year’s Day

Any patient who is notified of a COVID positive result during a holiday should be vigilant and alert known primary contacts. A primary contact is anyone the COVID positive patient has been in direct contact with (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer), it is recommended that primary contacts quarantine for 14 days from their last contact with the COVID positive patient. This simple act can be very effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19.
