Enrollment at Abilene ISD schools decreased by 1.1% compared to previous school year

There were 15,253 students enrolled in Abilene ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.1% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.9% of them were boys, and 49.1% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Abilene ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 46.4% of the student population.

Abilene ISD roughly covers schools within Taylor County with its main office in Abilene.

Among the 26 schools in Abilene ISD, Abilene High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,966 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
