Enrollment Analysis: American Indian students comprised 0.2% of Jones County’s student body in 2021-22 school year

There were six American Indian students enrolled in Jones County schools in the 2021-22 school year, 14.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Jones County welcomed 2,658 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, American Indian comprised 0.2% of the student body to be the second least represented ethnicity in the county.

Among the 13 schools in Jones County, Anson Elementary School, Anson High School, Hawley Elementary School, Oliver Elementary School, Stamford High School, and Stamford Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian student in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students…dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools…gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
