White students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Shackelford County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 617 students attending Shackelford County schools, 78% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 17.3% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, white students also made up the largest ethnic group in Shackelford County, comprising 76% of the student body.

Albany Junior-Senior High School had the most diverse student body in Shackelford County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county increased by 2.2%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
